TM Group announces unlimited mobile data plans starting at RM79
SUBANG JAYA, Aug 16 — Communications solutions provider TM Group today launched “webe” ― its mobile data service that will not have any quota restrictions on internet usage for as low as RM79.
Azizi A Hadi, the chief executive of webe, said TM Group wants to “reimagine” the provision of connectivity solutions and to open up a “digital world of possibilities” to Malaysians, instead of recreating what other telecommunications companies are doing.
“webe is unique because we see your mobile service plan as just the start so we want to give you the best. No worry about quota, no worry about allocation, no worry about contracts even.
“People may think we are crazy but we hope they can see we are visionary,” he said in a speech at webe's launch here.
He also envisioned that webe users would be able to enjoy a seamless experience by combining TM Group's Unifi broadband service at home and the new data plan when on the move.
He also highlighted that webe users are not locked in to any contract and would be able to cancel the mobile data plan at any time.
“Because we don't believe in confining our relationship to customers based on a contract. If customers are happy with the experience, they will have no reason to want to leave and will stay in a relationship with us at their own will,” he said.
According to Azizi, the webe service will be offered for RM79 for primary line users, with those using the supplementary lines to enjoy further rebates.
He said those who sign up online for the service could expect to receive the sim card and even their smartphone the very next day.
The webe mobile data service will only be made available to the public later this year. Azizi did not specify a date.
Earlier, Azizi had said that webe did not want to merely emulate what other telcos were doing in the already “highly competitive and saturated market”.
“If we had just done what everybody else was doing, competing on the same paradigm, we will just be another small fish in an overcrowded pond,” he said, later adding that webe's business is in line with TM Group's vision of “making life and business easier for a better Malaysia”.
TM Group CEO Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak were also present.
In a speech, Salleh commended the TM Group's move in building and upgrading its 4G (Long-Term Evolution) LTE network through webe, noting that there was a need for Malaysians to also get fast internet on top of being connected.
“People need more data, and as the data traffic gets larger, the challenge we face right now is in meeting the demand for data.
“Of course, data also has to be fairly priced, which is why I am pleased to note that webe provides a worry-free experience on their service, giving Malaysians access that is affordable,” he said, adding that quota-free data would enable Malaysians to better collaborate and share information online.
He noted that webe's crowd-backed digital platform has already seen over 50,000 Malaysians pledging in support of one of its community projects ― “#webeatdengue”.
